Notes: Large robin. Male
black head, & white body & wing panels. Female grey above, pale below,
w. pale wing panels. Ssp westralensis is like nominate cucullata, bill
longer, female w. brownish wash on upperparts & throat; picata is
smaller-bodied, white tail tips larger; melvillensis is very small-bodied,
long bill, female upperparts washed brown. In lightly timbered habitats dominated
by eucalypts & wattles. Prefers sites w. low vantage points from which to pounce
on prey.
