Notes: Plump, short-tailed, long-legged w. bold red underparts,
rusty nape, black throat, broad
blue chest band bordered below w. a thick black
line; greenish upperparts. Female slightly duller
head pattern than male. Song a
quivering, rising first note and a falling, mournful second whistle:
“waaaaop-aaaaaawoo”.
Singles, pairs forage on the forest floor. Breeds in closed wet forests of
Cape
York during the wet season. Migrates to New Guinea in non-breeding season.
