Notes: Large, w. top-heavy hunched appearance.
Dark sooty-grey w. fine white spots; massive
feet & claws, fully
feathered. Female larger. Contact call a long shrill, descending wail:
"falling
bomb"; also insect-like screeches & trills. In tall wet
eucalypt forest & temperate rainforest,
roosting in a hollow tree,
cave or rock overhang. Ssp multipunctata is substantially smaller,
paler; in rainforests & margins; perches low, often on sides of trunks.
