Notes: A fairly large pigeon w. obvious black & white
facial markings; a white stripe up the side
of the belly to the shoulder;
pale white underwings. Bill black; legs, feet dull purple. Nominate
scripta: orbital skin blue-grey. Juvenile: facial skin buff to pale yellow.
Ssp peninsulae differs
mainly in its red orbital skin, yellowish in
young birds. Cf close relative
Partridge Pigeon.
In open tussock-grass woodlands w. much bare ground.
